In 1922 it was remodeled by East Texas architect Shirley Simons, who added Classical Revival details. The house has a central-hall H-plan, beveled wood siding, a pier foundation, and intersecting hip and gable roofs with cornice returns. An inset porch has a flat roof, a deep entablature, and paired boxed wood columns with lattice infill. The central entry has side lights and a transom, and the projecting bays hold windows arranged in a Palladian motif with a central arched sunburst. A detached board-and-batten garage stands on the lot. The property appears on the 1927 Sanborn maps. Its 1937 occupants were James A. and Elizabeth Glass Cox; he was a registered druggist who ran the Glass and Cox Drug Store downtown. It was listed for its local architectural significance as a Victorian house reworked in a Classical Revival manner, and it remains in good condition and in residential use.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Remodel by Shirley Simons","architectural_style":"Victorian with Classical Revival remodel","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Present condition is listed as good, and the present use is residence.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.064469-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/68/9679/40967968/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88002789.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002789/4ae634b2a1-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002789/4ae634b2a1-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Everitt-Coxx_House,_Lufkin,_TX.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Everitt-Coxx_House,_Lufkin,_TX.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40967968","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everitt%E2%80%93Cox_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5417270"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/angelina-county/everitt-cox-house-88002789/"}
