It is the most elaborate of a row of company residences and the best and least altered of the manager and foreman dwellings built by the company. Significance is in architecture at the local level.","narrative":"Built between about 1910 and 1920 at 1218 Lufkin Street, this 1-1/2 story Bungalow was constructed by the Lufkin Land and Lumber Company as housing for a company manager. It has wood frame construction with horizontal siding, a raised foundation, an irregular plan, and intersecting hip and gable roofs with deep eaves. Details include extended beam ends at the front gable, small windows in the gable end with applied curved wood trim, and a porch with paired Doric columns set on a low sided wall. The windows are one-over-one double-hung sash with a haystack muntin pattern. It was the most elaborate of a row of residences originally situated across the road from the company plant. The lumber company was organized by George A. Kelley, T.L.L. Temple and E. W. Frost, then sold to the Long Bell Lumber Company, which operated the mill until about 1929. The house is regarded as the best and least altered of the company's manager dwellings and remains a residence in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Lufkin Land and Lumber Co.
