It was built in 1908 on a street of other large houses, during a period of commercial and agricultural expansion and before the boom years of the 1920s. Its significance is rated as local, in the area of architecture.","narrative":"Built around 1908, this large two-story brick house at 421 West Twohig in San Angelo is a notable local example of Prairie-style architecture. It has a low-pitched, flared hipped roof with very wide, bracketed eaves and attic dormers. Two matching brick porches with decks above, rusticated brick bases and cast stone trim dominate two facades. Each porch has three arched bays, and the central bay projects, rises to a higher parapet and has an elliptical arch springing from columned brickwork. The entry has sidelights and a transom, and the windows are large-paned one-over-one sashes. The house went up on a street of other large residences during a period of commercial and agricultural growth, before the boom of the 1920s. It is now used as an office and is in good condition. A metal fire escape and painted brick are the main alterations, and the fire escape detracts from the original appearance.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Prairie","criteria":[],"status_note":"Now used as an office; physical condition is described as good, with a metal fire escape and painted brick as alterations.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.260767-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/5/9702/40970205/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88002598.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002598/528fee0ed2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002598/528fee0ed2-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:421_Twohig,_San_Angelo,_TX.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:421_Twohig,_San_Angelo,_TX.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970205","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110001376"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/tom-green-county/house-at-421-west-twohig-88002598/"}
