It lacks refined details but has a pleasing appearance. It was built as the residence of stockman J.B. Murrah and stands on a street with several other landmark homes.","narrative":"Built in 1908 at 212 West Twohig in San Angelo, this narrow 2-1/2-story frame house was designed by local architect J.R. Bryant and built by R.A. Hughes. Its most prominent feature is a monumental portico with Doric columns, an entablature, a roof-line railing and a small cantilevered second-floor balcony. These elements appear to have been applied to an earlier house, and the off-center entry, with sidelight and transom, is cut through by the balcony support. The central hipped roof has jerkin-head projecting gables on three sides, with a Palladian window in the front gable. Stockman J.B. Murrah had the house built as his residence. Later occupants included A.O. Baker, Sam Jones, who held part ownership of the Lone Star Drug Company, and Mrs. Mallie Jones of Austin. It was recognized locally as a very good example of an upper-middle-class Classical Revival house, pleasing in appearance though modest in refined detail, and it sits on a street with several other landmark homes. Its condition is recorded as good.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect J.R. Bryant (local); builder R.A.
