It has been well maintained and is generally unaltered, and its photograph was used in city promotional brochures.","narrative":"Standing at 1004 Pecos in San Angelo's Angelo Heights addition, this two-story frame house was built before 1908 in a late Victorian vernacular style. Its roofline is complex, with a front-facing gable on the left, a central hipped section with two pedimented wall dormers, and a tall octagonal turret with a steeply pitched roof on the right. A one-story porch with Tuscan columns wraps around the turret, beginning at a pedimented gable over the centered entry. The upper part of the front gable slightly overhangs the curved first-floor wall below. Wilbur Brown, a prominent attorney with offices in the First National Bank Building, lived here until 1920, when rancher A.H. Benge of Paint Rock bought it. The house appeared in city promotional brochures. It was listed for its architecture, as a well-detailed and largely unaltered local example of the style. The architect and builder are unknown, and the property occupies less than one acre.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian vernacular","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Physical condition is described as good; the house is described as well maintained, generally unaltered and on its original site.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.002625-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/77/9701/40970177/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88002585.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002585/174172fe59-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002585/174172fe59-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brown_House_1,_San_Angelo,_TX.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brown_House_1,_San_Angelo,_TX.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970177","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000818"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/tom-green-county/brown-r-wilbur-house-88002585/"}
