The solid red brick walls have stone sills and lintels and sit on a rough-coursed stone foundation. The complex roof follows an irregular plan, with two street-facing gables, flared boxed eaves and cornice returns. An L-shaped porch has square brick columns and a solid brick railing, and the main entry has a glazed door flanked by sidelights. Willeke worked on the old Tom Green County Courthouse and on numerous schools, churches and commercial buildings before World War I, and architect Oscar Ruffini often chose him and his brothers to carry out his designs. The house is part of a family compound with the property at 941 East Harris, remains in good condition, and is valued as a local example of brick vernacular construction.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"John Willeke","architectural_style":"Brick Vernacular","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Physical condition is described as good, and the house is largely unaltered and on its original site.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.485046-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/27/9701/40970127/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88002572.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002572/77ba0d2404-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002572/77ba0d2404-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Michael Barera","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:San_Angelo_September_2019_89_(John_Willeke_Sr._House).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Barera</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:San_Angelo_September_2019_89_(John_Willeke_Sr._House).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970127","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110001360"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/tom-green-county/willeke-john-sr-house-88002572/"}
