It was built in the Park Heights Addition as San Angelo grew into a small but vigorous urban center. A reviewer described it as a significant vernacular house type with Colonial Revival detailing.","narrative":"Built between about 1910 and 1913, this large, boxy two-story house at 1017 South David stands in San Angelo's Park Heights Addition, an area south of the river and east of old Fort Concho that began developing around 1910. The frame structure is clad in cypress and has a one-story porch wrapping two sides. Seven stout Tuscan columns rest on natural stone piers that match the stone balustrade and porch foundation. A bell-shaped hipped roof with wide boxed overhangs and paired brackets carries four ventilation dormers, one on each side. The formal main doorway has sidelights, a transom and Ionic pilasters, and the double-hung windows include 3/1, 4/1 and 6/1 types, with a bay window on the south side. The house was listed as a good example of unaltered middle-class housing, notable for craftsmanship, expensive materials and attention to detail, and for its blend of vernacular form with Colonial Revival elements. Its first owner is reported to have been District Judge Montague.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular with Colonial Revival elements","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Physical condition is described as good, and the house remains on its original site in a residential area.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.116735-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/31/9702/40970231/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88002569.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002569/24a44d6b42-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002569/24a44d6b42-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1017_S._David_(2018),_San_Angelo,_TX.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1017_S._David_(2018),_San_Angelo,_TX.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970231","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000823"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/tom-green-county/house-at-1017-south-david-88002569/"}
