It is one of five virtually identical post offices built in New York State between 1939 and 1941. It also contains a 1941 Section of Fine Arts mural by Amy Jones.","narrative":"Scotia Station Post Office, at 224 Mohawk Avenue in Scotia, New York, is a one-story, five-bay brick building constructed in 1939-40 as a branch of the Schenectady post office. Built with a steel frame and red brick laid in English bond, it has a slate hipped roof and a symmetrical main facade centered on a recessed, segmentally arched entry topped by a cast-metal eagle. Windows have radiating brick voussoirs, and a corbel course suggests a denticulated cornice. The design is by the Office of the Supervising Architect under Louis A. Simon and follows the simplified Colonial Revival manner common to federal buildings of the period. It was one of five nearly identical post offices built in New York State between 1939 and 1941. Inside, despite some alterations, terrazzo floors and marble detailing survive, along with a 1941 tempera mural by Amy Jones showing the Glen family spared during the 1690 Schenectady Massacre. The building replaced an older dwelling and garage on the site.","period_of_significance":"1939-40; 1941","architect_builder":"Louis A.
