It is distinguished by a rare limestone portico, a domed vestibule and an ornate, largely original lobby. It also holds one of the most extensive mural cycles of the period, painted in 1936 under the Treasury Relief Art Program.","narrative":"Port Chester's post office, at 245 Westchester Avenue, is a symmetrical one-story building faced in Flemish-bond brick with limestone and granite trim. Designed by the consulting firm Zoller & Muller for the Office of the Supervising Architect of the Treasury, it was built in 1932-33 for about $159,000 and dedicated in September 1934. Its Colonial Revival character shows in a limestone portico with paired Corinthian columns, a pediment, round-arched windows and a swan's-neck pediment over bronze entrance doors. Porticos were rare on post offices built in the 1930s because of cost. Inside, a domed vestibule leads to a nearly intact lobby of travertine, marble, terrazzo and cast iron. Four large murals and nine lunettes by Domenico Mortellito, installed in 1936 through the Treasury Relief Art Program, show local scenes including the Life Saver factory, a bolt and nut works and the town wharf. The building is one of thirteen post offices erected in Westchester County in the 1930s.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Zoller & Muller, Consulting Architects (builder: Robert G.
