It was built for Mortimer Y. Ferris, a local banker, village president and New York State Senator from 1919 to 1926. With its carriage house and playhouse it forms the most intact Colonial Revival residential complex in Ticonderoga.","narrative":"Built in 1911 at 16 Carillon Road in Ticonderoga, this two-and-one-half-story Colonial Revival house was constructed for Mortimer Y. Ferris by local craftsman William A. Gale. It has clapboard siding, a hipped roof with pedimented dormers, a stone foundation, a porch with paired Doric columns, a Palladian window and leaded-glass windows with interlacing muntins. Inside, brick fireplaces with ornate wood surrounds, paneled wainscoting and fluted Ionic columns survive. A carriage barn and an open playhouse, both also built by Gale, stand in the rear yard. The property is considered significant as the best residential example of Colonial Revival design in the village and the most intact residential complex in that style. The style spread locally as the community took new interest in its colonial past during the reconstruction of Fort Ticonderoga. Ferris served as village president, school board president, bank president and state senator. After a period as four apartments, the house was restored to a single residence in 1980.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect W.A. Gale (William A.
