It is described as a key visual landmark and a regional center of education. Its largely intact Colonial Revival lobby and auditorium add to its importance.","narrative":"Ticonderoga High School, on Calkins Place in the village of Ticonderoga, is a three-story brick school built between 1928 and 1930 to plans by Reginald Marsh of the New York firm Tooker and Marsh. Duplex Construction Company built it. Designed to resemble an oversized Georgian house, it has a slate roof, a semicircular portico with Corinthian columns, flanking chimneys and a copper cupola. Among small frame homes, it forms a dramatic centerpiece. A fire in 1933 destroyed half the building; it was rebuilt under the same architects with a fireproof roof and a larger auditorium, and reopened for the class of 1934. A gymnasium was added in 1958, a planetarium in 1968, and new windows in 1982. The lobby and auditorium keep marble wainscoting, fluted pilasters, swan's neck pediments and classical moldings. It is valued as a local landmark and an intact example of Colonial Revival school design, still serving the region.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect: Tooker and Marsh (Reginald Marsh); Builder: Duplex Construction Company","architectural_style":"Neo-Georgian (Colonial Revival)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still in use as a school; condition listed as fair, with no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.107202-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/88002201.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002201/f624903cd9-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002201/f624903cd9-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TiconderogaNY_HighSchool.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:TiconderogaNY_HighSchool.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312841","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticonderoga_High_School","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7800747"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/essex-county/ticonderoga-high-school-88002201/"}
