It was later extended by a c. 1910 addition and is now L-shaped.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the building is a distinctive example of late Victorian industrial and commercial architecture with Queen Anne features, distinguished by fine brick, terra cotta and wood detailing. It is also the only surviving part of the pulp and paper mill complex that dominated this part of the village for almost 100 years, and it serves as a local landmark at the eastern edge of downtown.","narrative":"Built in 1888 at the foot of Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga, this two-story brick building served as the business office of the Ticonderoga Pulp and Paper Company. A c. 1910 addition to the north gave it an L-shaped plan. Its slate gable roof, denticulated brick cornice, molded string courses, yellow brick window arches and terra cotta tiles around a dated plaque in the gable show a level of ornament unusual for an industrial building. Queen Anne features include scroll sawn ornament and multi-pane upper sash. Inside, the original room layout, plaster walls and ceilings, and a walk-in vault with a pedimented entry survive beneath later finishes. The office replaced an earlier wooden one and is the only remnant of the mill complex that was demolished in the 1970s after International Paper moved out of the village. It is recognized as a local landmark and a rare example of late Victorian industrial architecture in the village. It now houses a heritage museum and gallery.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Victorian / Queen Anne features","criteria":[],"status_note":"Now used as a museum (Heritage Museum and Gallery); condition given as good, with exterior integrity retained.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.766357-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/88002191.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002191/f932fb0c3f-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88002191/f932fb0c3f-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Mwanner","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ticonderoga_Pulp_and_Paper_Company_Office.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Mwanner</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ticonderoga_Pulp_and_Paper_Company_Office.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312946","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticonderoga_Pulp_and_Paper_Company_Office","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7800751"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/essex-county/ticonderoga-pulp-and-paper-company-office-88002191/"}
