It is the outstanding local example of the L-plan form. It is also associated with William Frobese, Sr., a principal partner in the prominent firm H. Runge & Co.","narrative":"This two-story frame house at 305 E. Newman in Cuero is one of the city's oldest surviving residences. It has an L-plan form, weatherboard siding, a standing-seam metal gable roof, six-over-six wood windows, and a main entrance with transom and sidelights. Decorative features include box columns with molded caps, jig-sawn balusters and eave aprons, stick detailing and finials in the gables, and a polygonal bay topped by a balustraded porch. William Frobese, Sr., a German immigrant and principal partner in the regionally prominent firm H. Runge & Co., had the house dismantled at Indianola after the 1875 storm, with the planks numbered, and rebuilt in Cuero. It appears on an 1881 bird's-eye map of the city. Frobese died in 1911, and the house stayed in the family until recent years. It was listed for its architecture, as the outstanding local example of the L-plan, and for its link to Frobese's commercial prominence. The house remains in good condition and is virtually unaltered.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"L-plan","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Present condition is described as good and virtually unaltered; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.417251-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/40/9688/40968840/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88001980.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001980/5d62c814cc-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001980/5d62c814cc-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Frobese_House,_Cuero,_Texas.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:William_Frobese_House,_Cuero,_Texas.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968840","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110001894"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/dewitt-county/frobese-william-sr-house-88001980/"}
