Morgan in Cuero, De Witt County, Texas, built in 1891 for Albert and Kate Leinhardt. The contractor is given as H.J. Huck & Co., with a question mark.","why_significant":"The nomination cites architecture as the basis of significance. Its elaborate jig-sawn and spindled woodwork mark it as one of Cuero's most intact late 19th-century dwellings. It is virtually unaltered and stayed in the Leinhardt family through the 1930s.","narrative":"Built in 1891 for Albert and Kate Leinhardt, this 1 1/2-story frame house at 818 E. Morgan in Cuero follows a center-passage plan with an integral rear ell. It has weatherboard siding, a gable roof, and wood double-hung windows. The main entrance has a transom and sidelights. A five-bay shed-roofed porch runs across the south front, with turned posts and balusters, jig-sawn brackets, and a spindled frieze. Intersecting front gables hold paired windows, and imbricated shingles decorate all the gable ends. A three-sided bay projects from the west side, where a four-bay porch repeats the front detailing. The house is valued for architecture: its elaborate woodwork and its near-total lack of alteration make it one of Cuero's most intact late 19th-century dwellings. It remained in the Leinhardt family through the 1930s, and it is still a residence in good condition. Records list H.J. Huck & Co. as a possible contractor.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Huck, H.J. & Co. (?)
