Morgan in Cuero began life in Indianola, where Antone Keller, Sr., built it in 1851. Keller ran a crockery, glassware and grocery store there and died in 1857. His widow Charolette stayed in the house and later married her stepson, Antone Keller, Jr., who kept the store going. After the 1875 hurricane, the family dismantled the house and moved it to Cuero. Following Antone Jr.'s death in 1900, Victor and Augusta Keller Grunder became owners; Victor took over the store and later worked with the Cuero Cotton Compress & Warehouse Co. The house has a center passage, weatherboard siding, a gable roof, six-over-six windows, and a shed-roofed porch with turned posts and jig-sawn brackets. Twin gables with a central dormer top the facade, and imbricated shingles decorate the gable ends. It is regarded as one of Cuero's oldest houses and a good example of vernacular architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Center-passage dwelling (vernacular)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Recorded in good condition with rear additions; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.401878-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/82/9687/40968782/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88001973.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001973/84cf11e4d2-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001973/84cf11e4d2-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Keller-Grunder_House,_Cuero,_Texas.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Keller-Grunder_House,_Cuero,_Texas.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968782","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000796"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/dewitt-county/keller-grunder-house-88001973/"}
