Hunt Street in Cuero, De Witt County, Texas, built in 1912 for Charles J. and Alvina Ott.","why_significant":"The house is considered architecturally significant as one of the last examples of the L-plan dwelling built in Cuero. Although this plan was popular in the late 19th and very early 20th centuries, few local houses of this type were built after 1905. Mechanic's liens show it was built for the Otts, who owned it through the 1930s.","narrative":"Built in 1912 at 306 N. Hunt Street in Cuero, this one-story frame house follows an L plan. It has weatherboard siding, a gable roof with composition shingles, and wood double-hung windows with two-over-two lights. A four-bay curved porch with a shed roof and Doric columns faces east, and a square bay projects from the north side. Pent roofs, imbricated shingles and panelled divisions decorate the gable ends, and a skirt wall covers the foundation. The house was listed for its architecture. The L-plan form was most popular in the late 19th and very early 20th centuries, and few local houses of this type were built after 1905. This one, erected in 1912, is among the last examples of the vernacular form in Cuero. Mechanic's liens indicate it was built for Charles J. and Alvina Ott, who owned it through the 1930s. The records list Cuero Lumber Co. as a possible contractor, and the house remains in residential use in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Contractor: Cuero Lumber Co.
