Hunt Street in Cuero, De Witt County, Texas, completed in 1924. It stands at the southwest corner of Hunt and Courthouse streets in a residential area east of the central business district.","why_significant":"The nomination cites architecture as the basis for significance. It is one of only a small number of masonry residences in Cuero more than 50 years old, and few changes have affected its integrity since 1924. Although it shows some Prairie style detailing, it has features more typical of Mission Revival style.","narrative":"Built in 1924 at 208 N. Hunt Street in Cuero, this two-story frame house is faced in buff brick and topped with a hip roof of clay tiles. Details include exposed rafter ends, wood double-hung windows with six-over-one lights, a single-door entrance with a transom, and a porch with brick piers. One interior and two exterior brick chimneys have corbeled caps. A porte cochere on the north side has parapets derived from Mission Revival forms, along with cast-stone scrolled brackets and round-arched windows with brick hood moldings. The house was listed for its architecture. Few masonry residences in Cuero are more than 50 years old, and this one has changed very little since completion. Although it shows some Prairie style detailing, its features are more characteristic of Mission Revival design. M. D. Bennett lived there until his death in 1942, and his wife remained until her death in 1950. It was recorded in good condition and still used as a residence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Mission Revival elements with some Prairie style detailing","criteria":[],"status_note":"Recorded in good condition and virtually unaltered; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.103819-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/64/9687/40968764/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88001963.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001963/175c720c3d-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001963/175c720c3d-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"25or6to4","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bennett_House,_Cuero,_Texas.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">25or6to4</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bennett_House,_Cuero,_Texas.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968764","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000791"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/dewitt-county/bennett-m-d-house-88001963/"}
