Gonzales in Cuero, Texas, was built about 1929-30 for Alfred Friar, a cotton broker. It sits on its original site at the northeast corner of Gonzales and Clayton streets, in a residential area north of the central business district. The walls are stucco beneath a gable roof covered with composition shingles. Windows are paired, wood-sash, double-hung units with six-over-six lights, and the primary entrance is a single door. A three-bay porch, inset on the west elevation, has ogee archways and fluted Ionic columns. The architect and builder are unknown. Local surveyors in 1986 recorded the house as an outstanding local example of a residence with Tudor Revival detailing, and its architecture is the basis for its listing.
