It has 86 properties, mostly built between 1916 and 1936 after the 1916 fire.","why_significant":"The district was rebuilt rapidly after the March 1916 fire destroyed the earlier Victorian neighborhood. It contains good examples of American Foursquare, Bungalow, Colonial Revival and Jacobethan houses with uniform setbacks and ample lots. The modest homes of domestic workers on East Cherry and 8th streets are included because of their link to the larger houses.","narrative":"Pine Bluff/Fitzhugh is an L-shaped residential neighborhood of about 21 acres northeast of downtown Paris, Texas. Its 86 properties line Pine Bluff and Fitzhugh streets and the cross streets of East Cherry, 6th, 8th and East Booth. Nearly all of it was built after the fire of March 21, 1916, which wiped out the Victorian homes that stood here. About 50 of the present buildings existed by 1919, and about 80 by 1936. The larger houses sit on spacious lots with uniform setbacks and mature trees. Styles include American Foursquare, Bungalow, Colonial Revival and Jacobethan, among them the Moore House, designed by Curtis Board & Lightfoot, and the Broad House, designed by architect Curtis Broad for himself. Smaller wood-frame houses along East Cherry and 8th streets were occupied largely by domestics, laundresses and laborers, many of them Black, who worked in the larger homes. The district is valued for its cohesiveness, limited range of styles and high share of contributing buildings. Seventy of the 86 properties contribute.","period_of_significance":"1916-1936","architect_builder":"Curtis Board & Lightfoot (Moore House); Curtis Broad (Broad House); William Eubank, local contractor (Eubank House)","architectural_style":"American Foursquare, Bungalow, Colonial Revival, Jacobethan, Prairie School","criteria":[],"status_note":"Of 86 properties, 70 are contributing and 16 non-contributing; present use is private residence and the character has not changed appreciably.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:20.900523-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/73/9697/40969773/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88001938.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969773","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q109999557"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/lamar-county/pine-bluff-fitzhugh-historic-district-88001938/"}
