Its front projection has a two-tiered inset porch, with Ionic columns on the first floor and Doric columns above, topped by ornamental vergeboard. A one-story wraparound porch with Doric columns extends to the southeast. Windows are mostly one-over-one and irregularly placed, and dormers face south and east. Carlton died in 1905 and his wife in 1917. The house later passed through his son-in-law George Wortham before the present owners acquired it in 1949. It was recognized for its architecture, being an unusual hybrid: Colonial Revival influence appears in the columns, late Queen Anne in the overall massing, and Swiss Chalet in the inset porch and vergeboard. The house sits on U.S. Highway 82 in an older residential area with mature vegetation, and no alterations are known.","period_of_significance":"1900-","architect_builder":"Chas. B.
