It also sits on land that Paris founder George Wright deeded to his daughter Emily in 1846.","narrative":"Kaufman Terrace, at 216 4th S.W. in Paris, Texas, is a substantial 2½-story frame house built in 1876 for Emily Daniel and her husband, Capt. J.M. Daniel, a Confederate officer. The land came from Emily's father, Paris founder George Wright, who deeded ten acres to her in 1846. The house has a three-bay entrance front, arched two-over-two windows, a porch with chamfered posts and a concave roof, and a vergeboard showing Gothic Revival influence. A four-story tower with a mansard roof rises at the south. Walls are wood siding and the roof is wood shingle. A greenhouse and a hexagonal gazebo on the grounds are counted as contributing outbuildings. The property is valued for its architecture: an unusual and largely intact High Victorian Italianate villa, regarded as one of the most noteworthy Italianate residences left in northeast Texas. Mary Daniel sold it in 1944, and it remains a residence in good condition on well-landscaped grounds in an older neighborhood.","period_of_significance":"1800-1899","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"High Victorian Italianate","criteria":[],"status_note":"Physical condition is listed as good; the property is still in use as a residence on about 2 acres of landscaped grounds.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.638533-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/3/9698/40969803/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/88001921.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001921/8efff525a6-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88001921/8efff525a6-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:J._M._and_Emily_Daniel_House_Paris_Wiki_(1_of_1).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:J._M._and_Emily_Daniel_House_Paris_Wiki_(1_of_1).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969803","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q107321974"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/lamar-county/daniel-j-m-and-emily-house-88001921/"}
