The outbuildings, including an earlier Dutch barn, a mid-nineteenth century carriage house and a round-roof barn, document changing farm practices. The farm also represents the division of Livingston Manor into smaller family farms.","narrative":"Richmond Hill is a family farm complex on the west side of County Route 31 in Livingston, Columbia County, New York. Its centerpiece is a two-story brick Federal style farmhouse built in 1813-1814, with a pedimented central pavilion, a fanlight doorway, splayed marble lintels and a late nineteenth century kitchen wing. Behind it stand barns and outbuildings, among them a Dutch barn that appears to predate the house, a larger nineteenth century barn, a round-roof barn, and a mid-nineteenth century board-and-batten carriage house with decorative brackets. The house was built for Walter Tryon Livingston, whose family held land from the former Livingston Manor. The property was recognized because the house combines manor-scale design with restrained regional building traditions, and because the farm buildings trace the shift from wheat and mixed farming to dairy farming. The 269.6 nominated acres retain their historic setting and arrangement.","period_of_significance":"1800-1920","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":[],"status_note":"Occupied private residence and working dairy farm, in good condition with a high degree of integrity.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.388514-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/88000917.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000917/5ae5a12960-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000917/5ae5a12960-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"DACC23","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Richmond_Hill,_Front_View_(Livingston,_New_York).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">DACC23</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Richmond_Hill,_Front_View_(Livingston,_New_York).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317059","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richmond_Hill_(Livingston,_New_York)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7330864"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/columbia-county/richmond-hill-88000917/"}
