It is one of two intact brick Italianate commercial buildings in Old Hilliard. Its integrity, size and prominent corner location are cited, along with its role as the first purpose-built fraternal hall in town.","narrative":"Completed in 1883 at the corner of Main and Norwich Streets, the Odd Fellows Hall is a large two-story brick building in the original town of Hilliard, Ohio. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows organized in 1867, bought the lot in 1871 and finished the building twelve years later. Two ground-floor storefronts housed merchants, including a hardware store that operated under several owners until the early 1970s, while the lodge used the upper meeting hall until 1980. The Italianate design includes a hipped roof, paired brackets under wide eaves, round-headed windows with original two-over-two sash, and two well-preserved storefronts. Upstairs, the meeting room keeps its pressed metal ceiling, wood wainscoting, flooring and hanging light fixtures. It is one of two intact Italianate commercial buildings left in Old Hilliard, and it was the only fraternal group's hall there built specifically for that purpose. The first floor remains in retail use and the second floor is vacant.","period_of_significance":"1883","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"First floor continues in retail use; the second floor is vacant and not in use.","vacant_flag":null,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.288268-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/88000636.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000636/f7c09353d3-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000636/f7c09353d3-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Wdzinc","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Odd_Fellows_Hall_in_Hillard_Ohio.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Wdzinc</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Odd_Fellows_Hall_in_Hillard_Ohio.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988350","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odd_Fellows_Hall_(Hilliard,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7077355"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/odd-fellows-hall-88000636/"}
