It is an intact I-house with a three-bay facade, a type less common in Delaware County than the five-bay form. A regional survey found it to be the only intact I-house remaining in Scioto Township.","narrative":"Built around 1858 for William Felkner, this two-story brick house at 9716 Fontanelle Road near Ostrander is an I-house: two rooms over two rooms, a central entrance hall, a three-bay facade, 6/6 windows, and two brick end chimneys on a side-gabled roof. It rests on a sandstone foundation and has a rear ell. It replaced a log house put up in the 1830s by his father Jacob. A Colonial Revival front porch with Doric columns was added about 1920, when plumbing and electricity were installed. Inside, a carved wood staircase and wood mantels survive. The house is significant as a well-preserved example of vernacular rural architecture. Three-bay I-houses are less common in Delaware County than five-bay ones, and a regional survey found this to be the only intact I-house left in Scioto Township. No historic farm outbuildings remain, so the listed area covers only the house.","period_of_significance":"c. 1858","architect_builder":"Unknown","architectural_style":"Mid-19th century; Other: I-house","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Still used as a single dwelling; the form says it is used as a rental property.
