It has shingled and clapboard walls, a hipped roof, dormers, bay windows, four tapered chimneys, and a wraparound porch with a decorative balustrade and a round-arched entrance cut into a gable end. The design recalls the Queen Anne style through its asymmetrical composition, varied wall sheathing, and assorted window types. Sea Cliff grew from a camp meeting ground into a vacation retreat within commuting distance of New York City, but after 1910 automobiles drew vacationers elsewhere. Most summer houses became year-round homes, and many hotels and large boarding houses were lost to neglect. This house is one of the few boarding houses that survive from that era. The interior was converted to apartments in the 1930s but keeps some original brass hardware and a wooden fireplace surround with a beveled mirror. A mid-twentieth century garage is non-contributing.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne (design and details reminiscent of the style)","criteria":[],"status_note":"Exterior relatively unaltered and in good condition; interior converted to apartments in 1936-1937; present use is multi-dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.973201-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/88000038.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000038/62c1ac2414-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000038/62c1ac2414-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Daniel Winter","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_332_Franklin_Avenue_2013-09-29_17-47-29.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Winter</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_332_Franklin_Avenue_2013-09-29_17-47-29.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313791","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_332_Franklin_Avenue","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15225980"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/nassau-county/house-at-332-franklin-avenue-88000038/"}
