Built in 1884 as a Methodist parsonage and enlarged in 1887.","why_significant":"The house is presented as a distinguished example of a late nineteenth century summer house, recalling Sea Cliff's origins as a picturesque seaside resort. It was one of the largest and most distinguished houses built during the village's resort era. It shows typical Queen Anne characteristics and is a well-recognized local landmark because of its rambling design and corner tower.","narrative":"Built in 1884 as the Methodist parsonage in Sea Cliff, this two-and-one-half-story house at the corner of Sea Cliff and Dubois Avenues was enlarged in 1887 with an eastern section and a three-story octagonal corner tower. It is a Queen Anne style building with an asymmetrical plan, complex roof shapes, a jerkin-head cross-gable, slate roofing, corbelled chimneys and a wraparound porch with spool-turned posts. Stained-glass windows and many original interior features, including woodwork, staircase and light fixtures, survive. The porte-cochere was removed and the upper stories were resheathed in 1935. The house dates from the 1880s and 1890s, when Sea Cliff shifted from a camp meeting site to a summer resort. It was one of the village's largest and most distinguished houses of that period. Its size and prominent tower make it a well-known local landmark that reflects the prosperity and architectural tastes of the summer population.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence, originally a parsonage; condition described as excellent, with no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:44.764872-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/88000015.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000015/e7cb9f6623-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/88000015/e7cb9f6623-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Muncharelli","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:112_Sea_Cliff_Avenue_Sea_Cliff_New_York.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Muncharelli</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:112_Sea_Cliff_Avenue_Sea_Cliff_New_York.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75313785","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_at_112_Sea_Cliff_Avenue","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5913872"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/nassau-county/house-at-112-sea-cliff-avenue-88000015/"}
