Church Street in McKinney, Collin County, Texas, built in the late 19th century by an unknown architect or builder. It sits in a mostly residential area one block southwest of the central business district.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it one of the city's most outstanding examples of the L-plan house, a very popular vernacular plan-type of late 19th-century McKinney. Although many houses of identical plan exist locally, this one is among the most intact and best preserved. Its pedimented window and door surrounds and porch supports with molded capitals are noted as especially notable.","narrative":"This one-story frame house at 105 S. Church Street in McKinney follows an L-plan, a vernacular form that was extremely popular in the city in the late 19th century. It has weatherboard siding, a gable roof, wood double-hung windows, and a single-door entrance with a transom. A three-bay shed-roofed porch on the west elevation has wood posts with jigsawn brackets, and the pedimented cornice and window surrounds carry jigsawn applique. Many local houses share the same plan, yet this one is regarded as among the most intact and best preserved, with molded porch capitals and pedimented surrounds singled out. Its first owner was Thomas Wiley, a physician who came to McKinney from Alabama in 1866. He later built another home in the 1890s, demolished in the 1970s, but kept this house until his death in the 1940s. City directories show it served as a rental property. The house remains residential and in excellent condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"L-plan dwelling (vernacular)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition described as excellent; present use residential, and city directories show it was a rent house during the 20th century.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.115771-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/77/9685/40968577/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/87001756.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001756/6adef89072-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001756/6adef89072-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ThomasWileyHouse1.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ThomasWileyHouse1.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968577","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110001783"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/collin-county/wiley-thomas-w-house-87001756/"}
