Flanders for merchant Stephen Heard and his wife Lillie Snapp Heard. Hamilton & Martin served as contractor. The house has an asymmetrical plan, weatherboard siding, a hip roof with box eaves, jigsawn brackets, and an eleven-bay porch with colonettes on brick piers. Details include imbricated shingles, oversized carved capitals, a corbeled chimney cap and a cast-iron fence. A carriage house survives on the property. It blends Queen Anne and Neoclassical Revival elements and is regarded as one of McKinney's most unusual and best preserved homes. Heard co-owned the Heard Bros. General Store and served as a director of the Collin County National Bank and many local enterprises. After his death in 1926, his wife owned the house until 1932, and Thomas and Katheryn Craig later became owners. Katheryn Craig left it to the club women of McKinney in 1970, and it remains a social gathering place.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"J.E.
