Church in McKinney, Collin County, Texas, estimated to have been built around 1895. It sits in a residential area of mostly turn-of-the-century houses about six blocks north of the central business district.","why_significant":"The nomination cites architectural significance. The house is a variant of the L-plan type and is described as one of the best preserved of several similarly detailed houses in the city. Its unusual roof line and original jigsawn and turned-wood detailing remain in good condition.","narrative":"Built around 1895 at 710 N. Church Street in McKinney, this one-and-a-half-story frame house follows a modified L-plan. It was probably built for R.L. Davis, a local physician. By 1922 J.S. Hill owned it, and it stayed in the Hill family until 1968. The house has weatherboard siding, a steeply pitched hip roof with gabled and clipped-gable extensions, and a six-bay shed-roofed porch wrapping the south and west sides. Turned-wood posts, squared balusters and jigsawn brackets decorate the porch, while imbricated shingles and a jigsawn sunburst motif fill the gable ends. Windows have crown-molded surrounds. Although several similarly detailed houses survive in the city, this is considered one of the best preserved, and the original woodwork remains in good condition. The distinctive roof line is among its most notable features. The house sits among mostly turn-of-the-century homes about six blocks north of downtown and is still used as a residence.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Modified L-plan dwelling","criteria":[],"status_note":"Condition is listed as good; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.75755-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/81/9685/40968581/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/87001697.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001697/cc98e76487-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001697/cc98e76487-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Susan Bartley","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Davis-Hill_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Susan Bartley</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Davis-Hill_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968581","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000752"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/collin-county/davis-hill-house-87001697/"}
