It is also significant for its role in educating Black children from 1923 to 1955 and for its link to philanthropist Julius Rosenwald.","narrative":"Built in 1923 west of Cassville in Bartow County, Georgia, this one-story, weather-boarded school served Black children until 1955. It follows a Rosenwald plan for two-teacher schools, with two classrooms, an industrial arts room, two cloak rooms and two entrance vestibules. The building has a sheet metal roof, two brick chimneys and a rock foundation, and much of its original flooring, walls, doors and blackboards survive. It had no plumbing and was heated by coal or wood stoves. The school was one of two Rosenwald schools in the county, funded in part by the state, local citizens and the fund begun by Chicago merchant Julius Rosenwald. It closed in 1955 when the county's Black schools were consolidated into Bartow Elementary School. The nomination highlights its standardized architecture, its role in public education for Black children, and its graduates, many of whom went on to college and advanced degrees. At listing the building was deteriorated and unoccupied.","period_of_significance":"1900- (specific date 1923)","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Rosenwald school (standardized two-teacher plan)","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"At the time of nomination the building was deteriorated and unoccupied; it had been abandoned as a school in 1955.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:43.182215-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_GA/87001103.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001103/29177f7464-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001103/29177f7464-1600.webp","licence":"CC0","author":"Thomson200","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Noble_Hill_School,_Bartow_County,_Dec_2017.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomson200</a>, <a href=\"http://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.en\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Noble_Hill_School,_Bartow_County,_Dec_2017.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/93206954","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134085767"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/georgia/bartow-county/noble-hill-school-87001103/"}
