Architect and builder are unknown.","why_significant":"The nomination calls it an outstanding collection of farm architecture in Rhinebeck. The farmhouse is a distinctive, intact, text-book example of rural Greek Revival design, showing the shift from eighteenth-century stone farmhouses to more standardized nineteenth-century styles. The surviving outbuildings and open farm setting show how a working farmstead evolved and reflect the town's growth as a prosperous agrarian community.","narrative":"Set on eight acres along Cedar Heights Road in north-central Rhinebeck, this farmstead centers on a one-and-one-half-story frame farmhouse built around 1830. The five-bay, center-hall main block has recessed side wings, a wide frieze with eyebrow windows, broad corner pilasters and a Greek Revival entrance with Doric pilasters. Late nineteenth-century porches with Victorian woodwork were added, along with rear wings. Nearby stand a late nineteenth-century barn and shed, a wagon house across the road, a dry-laid stone well and two stone cisterns used until the 1950s. The property was leased in 1826 by Rutsen Suckley to William Mink, and by 1844 it belonged to the Van Vredenburg family, which gave the farm its name. It was listed as an intact rural example of Greek Revival design and as a farmstead showing how local building traditions and agricultural life developed in the mid-Hudson Valley between about 1830 and 1900.","period_of_significance":"ca. 1830 - ca. 1900","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Still used as a residence, in good condition, with no known threats; the original site and integrity are retained.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.67924-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/87001079.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001079/2277a59beb-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87001079/2277a59beb-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Magicpiano","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RhinebeckNY_VanVredenburgFarm.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Magicpiano</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RhinebeckNY_VanVredenburgFarm.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312516","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Vredenburg_Farm","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7913748"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/van-vredenburg-farm-87001079/"}
