It shows how local building moved from eighteenth-century stone farmhouses to more standardized nineteenth-century styles. The barn and corn crib and the intact agrarian setting add to its significance as a working farmstead.","narrative":"Set on a knoll overlooking two ponds formed by the Fallsburg Creek, this farmhouse in Rhinebeck was built around 1830 on a 15.2-acre farm. It is a two-story, three-bay clapboard frame house on a raised stone foundation, with a pedimented gable facing east, a wide frieze and a one-story south wing. The front entrance has pilasters, sidelights, a transom and a porch with fluted Doric columns. Inside, restrained Greek Revival woodwork survives, including mantels, balusters and trim. The house combines Federal-style form and narrow corner boards with Greek Revival detailing, a mix the nomination calls a transition-period design also seen in Rhinebeck village. A late nineteenth-century gambrel-roofed barn and a corn crib remain north of the house. The property was acquired by John C. Barringer in 1806 and stayed in the Barringer family for many years. It was listed for its intact architecture and its farm setting, which shows how local building traditions changed over time.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Architect and builder unknown","architectural_style":"Late Federal/early Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a residence; condition listed as excellent, with no known threats.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:46.225068-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/87001076.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"90002219","name":"Hudson River Heritage Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/hudson-river-heritage-historic-district-90002219/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75312482","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barringer_Farmhouse","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4863631"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/barringer-farmhouse-87001076/"}
