A review of over 1,000 surveyed Miami County properties found no other house of the period reflecting both styles or using this completely square plan. Its Greek Revival elements are unusual for a house built as late as 1881.","narrative":"Set among broad cultivated fields on LeFevre Road in Elizabeth Township, this two-story brick farmhouse was completed in 1881 for Callahill and Priscilla Weddle. It sits on a limestone foundation and is three bays square, with a patterned slate hipped roof, wide eaves, and a veranda wrapping the east side. Tall, narrow windows reflect the Italianate style, while simple stone lintels and sills and a four-panel door with transom follow Greek Revival practice. Attached at the rear is a one-story brick building from about 1848, apparently a tenant house, later used as a summer kitchen. A survey of more than 1,000 Miami County properties found no other house of the period combining both styles or using this square plan. Callahill Weddle came from Virginia in 1880 and married Priscilla Studebaker, whose family gave the couple land as a wedding gift. The house remains much as it was more than a century ago, with restored interior woodwork and original hardware.","period_of_significance":"1881","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate; Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Used as a single dwelling; interior and woodwork have been restored to a high standard, and the house is described as largely unchanged from its original appearance.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:15.079172-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/87000986.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000986/0047d3e587-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000986/0047d3e587-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Callahill_and_Priscilla_Weddle_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Callahill_and_Priscilla_Weddle_House.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"97000160","name":"Elizabeth Township Rural Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/elizabeth-township-rural-historic-district-97000160/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71990295","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138589644"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/miami-county/weddle-callahill-and-priscilla-house-87000986/"}
