The outbuildings, including a gambrel-roofed hay barn and a rainbow-roofed dairy barn, show the farm's development and the rise of dairying in the area.","narrative":"Along Route 20 in Duanesburg, a farmhouse and its barns form a small farm complex on about two and a half acres. The house dates to around 1848, when John A. Ferguson of Princetown bought the land from Adelia, youngest daughter of James Duane, and built a large but simple Greek Revival farmhouse. It has two stories, clapboard siding, a street-facing gable, a wide frieze, cornice returns, heavy corner pilasters and a side entrance with sidelights and a transom. Wings extend to the west and east. The outbuildings trace the farm's growth: a mid-nineteenth-century small barn now used as a garage, a tool shed, a late nineteenth-century gambrel-roofed hay barn, and an early twentieth-century rainbow-roofed dairy barn designed for cow welfare and sanitary milk handling, with a silo behind. Highways cut through the original farm, so only the house and barn area was included in the listing. The complex is valued for its vernacular architecture and its record of local dairying.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular Greek Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Private residence in good condition with a new roof; the only listed alteration is the roof, and no threats are known.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:45.646311-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/87000913.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000913/a584b8d6a0-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000913/a584b8d6a0-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Vicki Cammer","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ferguson_Farm_Complex_3.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Vicki Cammer</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ferguson_Farm_Complex_3.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75314592","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferguson_Farm_Complex","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5444236"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/schenectady-county/ferguson-farm-complex-87000913/"}
