The buildings date from about 1840 to 1875.","why_significant":"The additions are a surviving part of the nineteenth-century river-slope community that grew up during Poughkeepsie's maritime economy. The Main Street buildings are a rare remnant of commercial/residential architecture and restore the district's link to a commercial thoroughfare. The North Bridge Street houses extend the district's residential character, including a distinctive Second Empire house at 29 North Bridge Street.","narrative":"Two small groups of surviving buildings on the southern edge of Poughkeepsie's Mill Street-North Clover Street district were added to its boundary. They had been left out of the original listing because demolition was planned, and much of that demolition never happened. One group is six attached brick and frame buildings at 101-111 Main Street, plus 113-115 Main Street, with storefronts at street level and dating from about 1840 to 1850. The other is four detached houses at 25, 27, 29 and 32 North Bridge Street, built between about 1850 and 1875. Number 29 is a distinctive Second Empire house with a slate mansard roof. The Main Street block is the district's only commercial section and a rare fragment of the commercial and residential architecture once concentrated near the Hudson River. The houses continue the district's residential streetscape and reflect its Greek Revival, Second Empire and vernacular building stock. Together they recall the maritime-era village that grew on the river slope.","period_of_significance":"1830-1930","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Greek Revival, Second Empire, and vernacular, with Picturesque decorative detail","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as occupied and in good condition, with some alterations; the buildings are in private ownership, in residential and commercial use.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:50:44.760263-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_NY/87000812.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"72000834","name":"Mill Street-North Clover Street Historic District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/new-york/mill-street-north-clover-street-historic-district-72000834/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/75317412","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":null},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/new-york/dutchess-county/mill-street-north-clover-street-historic-district-boundary-increase-87000812/"}
