It handled coal, grain, cheese, livestock, passengers and mail. It is the sole surviving railroad structure in the community.","narrative":"This small wooden depot in Wyoming, Illinois, served the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. Built in 1871 and moved from the north side of town to the south side in 1880, it is a one-story frame building with board-and-batten siding, an overhanging gable roof with decorative braces, and a plan divided into a waiting room, ticket office and baggage and freight room. It rests on telephone poles set in the ground. The depot is recognized for its role in the economic life of southern Stark County. It was the shipping point for coal, grain, cheese, cattle and hogs, and it connected local businesses and farmers to Peoria and Chicago markets, while also carrying passengers and mail. By 1875 the line was shipping hundreds of carloads of grain and stock from Wyoming. Of the town's two railroads, this depot is the only surviving railroad structure. Train service continued into the 1960s, although the railroad's greatest impact came before the 1930s.","period_of_significance":"1871 - c. 1930","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":null,"criteria":["A"],"status_note":"Listed as vacant in the present-use section; the building is in fair condition with very good integrity, and a small section of panelling and baseboard has been removed.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:55:35.501852-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/56/8941/28894156/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_IL/87000650.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000650/57b30fbc01-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000650/57b30fbc01-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wyoming_CB%26Q_depot.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wyoming_CB%26Q_depot.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/28894156","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming_station_(Illinois)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5095402"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/illinois/stark-county/chicago-burlington-and-quincy-railroad-depot-87000650/"}
