It was also the city's first separate high school and reflects Mingo Junction's rapid growth in the 1920s and 30s. It complements the neighboring Central Public School and retains integrity of location, setting, materials and workmanship.","narrative":"Central High School, at 110 Steuben Avenue in Mingo Junction, Ohio, is a two-story, brick-faced school with a steel frame, a flat roof, a raised basement and a parapet roofline. Built in 1929 and dedicated in 1930, it was the first separate high school to serve the community, which was approaching 5,000 residents. Its twelve-bay front has two projecting entry pavilions with stepped parapets, recessed entries with pointed-arch stone surrounds, stone banding, and buttress-like projections between the bays. The design deliberately echoes the neighboring Central Public School, completed in 1920, and the two buildings face each other across School Way on Church Hill. A brick gymnasium added in 1957 uses a similar scale and materials and does not detract from the original. The school was listed for its intact Jacobethan Revival design and for its role in the early twentieth-century growth of Mingo Junction. It was consolidated with Cross Creek Local Schools in 1969.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Jacobethan Revival (described in the inventory sheet as Classical Revival)","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Listed as in good condition and still used as a high school at the time of the inventory; owned by a local school district.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.228936-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/87000471.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000471/e1cb29810b-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000471/e1cb29810b-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Roseohioresident","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Central_High_School_(Mingo_Junction,_Ohio)_2012-07-13.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">Roseohioresident</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Central_High_School_(Mingo_Junction,_Ohio)_2012-07-13.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985525","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q138378883"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/jefferson-county/central-high-school-87000471/"}
