It is also described as a fine, well-preserved Federal period Cape cottage that retains its barn. It is argued to meet criteria A, B and C.","narrative":"Built in 1799 on the crown of Scorton Hill in West Barnstable, this Federal period Cape cottage stands at 313 High Street, along a route once known as the Post Road and used by stagecoaches and travelers. The house has five bays, a 1 1/2-story height, wood shingle siding, a low stone foundation, a gable roof and a large central chimney. Its symmetrical facade centers on an entry with a five-pane transom, and the windows hold 12/12 sash. A one-story rear ell and an old barn complete the property. Barzillai Weeks, born in 1769, and his family owned the 35-acre tract from 1795 until 1956. The land is believed to have earlier belonged to the family of Captain John \"Mad Jack\" Percival, who was born there. The house is valued for its long family association, its tie to local farming history and its well-preserved architecture.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Federal","criteria":["A","B","C"],"status_note":"Condition is stated as excellent, with no major alterations and not moved; the house is currently used as a dwelling.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:13:01.384194-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/87/7890/63789087/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_MA/87000241.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000241/0a9ca20cba-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/87000241/0a9ca20cba-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Stina716","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barzillai_Weeks_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Stina716</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barzillai_Weeks_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/63789087","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barzillai_Weeks_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4866095"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/massachusetts/barnstable-county/weeks-barzillai-house-87000241/"}
