It is part of the East Broad Street multiple resource area.","why_significant":"The nomination argues it reflects turn-of-the-century residential development along East Broad Street, then a fashionable tree-lined boulevard (Criterion A). It is also an outstanding example of Neo-Classical style (Criterion C), with a dramatic two-story Ionic portico that only one other residence on the street matches.","narrative":"Built in 1899 at 1031 East Broad Street in Columbus, this two-and-a-half-story brick house is a Neo-Classical Revival residence with a stone foundation and a hipped slate roof. Its most striking feature is a two-story Ionic portico with a dentil-detailed pediment, a balustraded balcony and a fan-lighted doorway. The entrance also has sidelights and fluted Doric columns, and the cornice carries dentils and modillions. When it was built, East Broad Street was a tree-lined boulevard and among the most fashionable residential streets in the city. The house is considered significant as an example of that development and as an outstanding expression of the Neo-Classical style; only one other residence on the street has a comparably dramatic portico. Lovett T. Scofield, a coffee and spice company president, lived there from 1910 to 1914, and Dr. Daniel G. Sanor Jr. lived there from 1918 to 1931. The Ohio State Grange has used it as its headquarters since 1950.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Neo-Classical Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Used as the Ohio State Grange headquarters and meeting hall since 1950; condition listed as good (interior) and fair (exterior).","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.79514-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86003447.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003447/1fee8b7a70-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003447/1fee8b7a70-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Sixflashphoto","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Scofield-Sanor_House_1.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Sixflashphoto</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Scofield-Sanor_House_1.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"78002063","name":"Columbus Near East Side District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/columbus-near-east-side-district-78002063/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985236","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scofield-Sanor_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q104733801"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/scofield-sanor-house-86003447/"}
