Its simple massing, buttressing and large Tudor-arched stained glass window with tracery are cited as characteristic features. Its stone construction adds to the architectural character of East Broad Street at the turn of the century.","narrative":"Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, at 787 East Broad Street in Columbus, is a stone church completed in 1903 in the Late Gothic Revival style. It has a crenellated narthex, buttressed walls, rock-faced random ashlar masonry, a slate gable roof and cut stone detailing at the battlements, arches, string courses and cornices. A large Tudor-arched stained glass window with elaborate tracery dominates the main sanctuary, and the interior has oak beamed ceilings, pews and altar. The congregation's first church, built between 1841 and 1846, stood downtown at Third and Mound Streets. After outgrowing that site, the congregation moved to the rapidly developing east side and chose a prominent location on fashionable East Broad Street. The church was listed for reflecting the major development along this principal east-west route and as a representative example of Late Gothic Revival architecture. Its stone construction and massing contribute to the architectural character of the street at the turn of the twentieth century.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Late Gothic Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Still in use as a church; condition listed as excellent on the exterior and good on the interior.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.927498-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86003430.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003430/743a68bffd-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003430/743a68bffd-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Former_Saint_Paul%27s_Episcopal_Church_on_East_Broad_Street.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Former_Saint_Paul%27s_Episcopal_Church_on_East_Broad_Street.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985226","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Paul%27s_Episcopal_Church_(Columbus,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q7402017"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/saint-pauls-episcopal-church-86003430/"}
