Morris.","why_significant":"The house represents the major period of residential development along East Broad Street, where many of Columbus' prominent businessmen and professionals lived around the turn of the century. It is also an outstanding example of Queen Anne architecture, one of only four examples of the textured masonry mode on the street.","narrative":"Built in 1897 at 875 East Broad Street in Columbus, this 2½-story brick house was the home of Charles E. Morris, owner of Morris Ironworks, a prominent real estate attorney and president of the Hotel Lincoln Co. At the turn of the century East Broad was a tree-lined avenue where many of the city's leading businessmen and professionals lived. The house shows the Queen Anne style through its irregular massing, corner turret, tall stepped chimneys and textured masonry, with stone trim, cut stone lintels and sills, and richly carved column capitals, brackets and pilaster bases. It is one of only four examples of the textured masonry mode on the street. The Morris family lived here from 1897 until 1924. The building was later rented out for rooms and then used as commercial space, and it retains its integrity. It was listed for its link to the street's residential development and for its architecture.","period_of_significance":"1897","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Later rented out for rooms, then used as a commercial space (antiques and interior design store) that retained its integrity; condition rated good to very good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.709664-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86003398.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003398/1783bc3d36-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003398/1783bc3d36-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"Wdzinc","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Columbus_ohio_ce_morris_house.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Wdzinc</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Columbus_ohio_ce_morris_house.jpg"},"district":{"nrhp_refnum":"78002063","name":"Columbus Near East Side District","url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/districts/ohio/columbus-near-east-side-district-78002063/"},"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71985210","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._E._Morris_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q105044504"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/franklin-county/morris-c-e-house-86003398/"}
