Architect and builder are unknown.","why_significant":"It is argued to be significant under Criterion A as reflecting turn-of-the-century residential development along East Broad Street, and under Criterion C as an example of Queen Anne architecture. It is one of only 16 remaining Victorian-era single-family residences on the street and was home to Frederick Prentiss, a bank president, from 1890 to 1938.","narrative":"Built in 1890 at 706 East Broad Street in Columbus, this 2½-story brick house is a Queen Anne residence with an irregular plan, multiple bays, roof dormers and corbelled brickwork. The front facade has a central two-story bay window and a one-story circular bay, and the hipped roof is slate. A half-timbered brick carriage house with a steeply pitched cross-gabled slate roof stands at the rear. Frederick Prentiss, president of the Hayden/Clinton National Bank, and his wife lived here from 1890 to 1938. The house reflects the growth of East Broad Street at the turn of the century, after the street was annexed eastward to Alum Creek and electric streetcars ran along nearby Oak Street. It is one of only 16 Victorian-era single-family homes left on the street. The inventory records the property as vacant, with its exterior in good condition and a later service room added at the rear corner.","period_of_significance":"1890-1938","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Italianate/Queen Anne","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Listed as vacant on the inventory form; exterior condition good, interior condition unknown.
