It is also the only large-scale structure in Cincinnati built exclusively to house medical professionals' offices.","narrative":"Rising eight stories above Garfield Place and Piatt Park in downtown Cincinnati, this 1923 office building was designed by the local firm Tieteg & Lee and built by the Ohio Building and Construction Company. Its north front is clad in white glazed terra cotta with pointed-arch windows, ogee arches, low-relief tracery and a central tower, while the side and rear walls are brick and exposed concrete frame. It was erected as an investment property by a corporation of Cincinnati businessmen and became the city's largest concentration of medical offices, a role it held at least into the 1960s. It was listed because Gothic Revival design is unusual among Cincinnati's downtown commercial buildings of the post-World War I boom, most of which drew on classical sources, and because the architects mostly worked in a classical mode. The exterior has changed little apart from the ground-floor storefronts, though the interiors have been altered.","period_of_significance":"1923","architect_builder":"Tieteg & Lee (architects); Ohio Building and Construction Company (builder)","architectural_style":"Commercial Late Gothic Revival","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Exterior minimally altered, mainly at the first-floor storefronts and entrance; interiors extensively changed. The building still houses some medical tenants, and the original Benet's Pharmacy still occupies its original space.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:53:14.740049-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_OH/86003317.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003317/60844aca34-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86003317/60844aca34-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Nyttend","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Doctors%27_Building,_Cincinnati.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Nyttend</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Doctors%27_Building,_Cincinnati.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71988939","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctors%27_Building_(Cincinnati,_Ohio)","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q5287536"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/ohio/hamilton-county/doctors-building-86003317/"}
