Its survival is described as unusual for Morrisville Borough and Falls Township, where few eighteenth and early nineteenth century structures remain. It is linked to Gershom Craft, a Trenton lawyer, newspaper proprietor and civic leader, and to the post-Revolutionary period when Morrisville was considered as a national capital site.","narrative":"Built c. 1807 in Morrisville, Bucks County, as a country seat, this fieldstone house was one of several prominent residences the area produced after the Revolutionary War. Its central two-story section is five bays wide and one room deep, with a gambrel roof, and it is flanked by a kitchen wing of diminished proportions. A stone smoke house, a late nineteenth-century carriage house and a frame shop survive alongside it, the last remnants of the eighty-four acre Pomona Farm. The house is regarded as a well preserved example of vernacular Federal architecture. Original woodwork and hardware remain largely intact, and interior features include a light, delicate staircase, a dining room close to a cube in proportion, and mantels decorated with swags, urns and wheat sheaves. Its owner, Gershom Craft, was a Trenton lawyer and newspaper proprietor who died in 1808, and the property passed to a sea captain in 1842.","period_of_significance":"1806-1808","architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"vernacular Federal style","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Being restored by the present owners; original fabric and woodwork largely intact.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-haiku-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.1-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 17:11:34.583057-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/lz/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_PA/86002892.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002892/316710ade8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002892/316710ade8-1600.webp","licence":"Public domain","author":"Jasonvodicka at English Wikipedia","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GCraftHouse.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Jasonvodicka at English Wikipedia</a>, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:GCraftHouse.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/71996626","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gershom_Craft_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q15221577"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/pennsylvania/bucks-county/craft-gershom-house-86002892/"}
