Main in downtown Victoria, Texas, built in 1909 by contractor Bailey Mills for William J. and Agnes Keef.","why_significant":"The building is significant for its architecture as a Mission Revival commercial building with rare Mission Revival influences and a largely intact three-bay storefront. It is also significant for commerce, as the site of several business ventures, including the Filley Store, which has operated there since the Filleys bought the building in 1934.","narrative":"Located at 214 S. Main in Victoria's central business district, between De Leon Plaza and the municipal complex, this two-story brick commercial building dates to 1909. Contractor Bailey Mills erected it for owners William J. and Agnes Keef. Its flat roof is hidden behind a raised, mission-style brick parapet inscribed with the construction date, with wooden \"vigas\" extending below the panel. Brick string courses and a corbelled course mark the upper-story windows and parapet. The three-bay storefront, with fixed display windows, transoms, and a recessed center entrance, is virtually intact, and a one-story porch with a balcony spans the west elevation. Various tenants used the space before George and Marcia Filley, who had run the Filley Store on Main Street since 1905, bought the building in 1934. The store still operates there. The property was listed for its architecture, as a rare local example of Mission Revival influence, and for its long role in local commerce.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Contractor Bailey Mills","architectural_style":"Mission Revival; eclectic commercial building","criteria":["A","C"],"status_note":"Listed in good condition; the Filley Store remains in operation at the site.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.407864-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/31/9705/40970531/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86002612.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002612/e52a33beb7-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002612/e52a33beb7-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Keef-Filley_Building.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Keef-Filley_Building.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970531","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keef%E2%80%93Filley_Building","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q6382686"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/victoria-county/keef-filley-building-86002612/"}
