Moody in Victoria, Victoria County, Texas, dated to about 1870 and built in the Neoclassical Revival style.","why_significant":"The house is considered significant for its architecture, as an imposing late nineteenth-century dwelling, and for its link to the cattle industry. Early owner E. B. Barden was a bank teller, and the O'Connor family later owned it and took part in one of the largest ranching operations in South Texas. The reviewer recommended acceptance under criteria B and C.","narrative":"Located at 305 N. Moody in Victoria, Texas, this two-and-a-half-story dwelling dates to about 1870. It is a wood-frame house with weatherboard siding, a composition shingle gable roof with gable dormers, box eaves with crown molding and end returns, and an exterior brick chimney with a corbeled cap on the north side. A Georgian plan with a rear ell and later additions underlies the Neoclassical Revival styling. The east front has a five-bay, two-story porch with Doric columns, a main entrance with sidelights, and a Palladian-inspired door and sidelight design on the second story, with a Palladian window centered above. Windows are wood sash, double hung, with six-over-six lights. The house is tied to E. B. Barden, a bank teller who was an early and possibly original owner. Thomas M. O'Connor owned it briefly before his son Dennis took over in the early 1930s. The O'Connors were involved in one of the largest ranching operations in South Texas. The house remains residential and is in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Neoclassical Revival","criteria":["B","C"],"status_note":"Present use residential; condition described as good.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.360533-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/21/9705/40970521/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86002609.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002609/111c0f38a8-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002609/111c0f38a8-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"ProfReader","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barden-O%27Connor_House.JPG\" rel=\"noopener\">ProfReader</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barden-O%27Connor_House.JPG"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970521","wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barden%E2%80%93O%27Connor_House","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4860122"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/victoria-county/barden-oconnor-house-86002609/"}
