Power at N. Bridge in Victoria, Texas, built about 1910 and designed by the architects Hull & Praeger for banker Frank B. Lander.","why_significant":"The house is significant for its architecture. It is described as a grand and unusual asymmetrical Neoclassical Revival design, with a two-story porch that departs from an otherwise symmetrical three-bay facade. It was also built for Frank B. Lander, a banker, investor and organizer of the Victoria Independent School District.","narrative":"This two-story wood-frame house at 202 W. Power in Victoria, Texas, was built around 1910 in the Neoclassical Revival style. Banker, investor and school district organizer Frank B. Lander commissioned the architects Hull & Praeger to design it for himself and his second wife. Dr. Joseph V. Hopkins bought the house about 1920. The house has a Georgian plan, weatherboard siding, a truncated hip roof and three interior brick chimneys. A two-story flat-roofed porch carries fluted columns with composite capitals, paired at the entry bay, and a second-floor gallery with turned balusters. The porch extension on the east side breaks from the otherwise symmetrical three-bay facade, which gives the house its unusual asymmetrical character. Rear additions and a two-story garage apartment are also present. A 1983 survey found it in good condition and still used as a residence. It was listed for its architectural significance.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":"Hull & Praeger","architectural_style":"Neoclassical Revival","criteria":[],"status_note":"Recorded in good condition in 1983, still in residential use, with the east portion of the porch screened.
