It has been moved from its original site.","why_significant":"The nomination argues the house is significant for its architecture. L-plan dwellings were built in great numbers in Waxahachie in the late nineteenth century, and this is one of the city's most intact examples. The reviewer called it a well-preserved representative of a once prolific vernacular regional type.","narrative":"Built around 1895, this one-story frame house at 1301 East Marvin in Waxahachie follows the L-plan, a house type once common across the city and region. It has weatherboard siding, a hip roof with gables covered in composition shingles, and wood double-hung windows with one-over-one lights. Two single-door entrances have transoms, and an L-shaped porch on the south elevation has a shed roof, turned wood posts and squared balusters. Jig-sawn brackets, turned and jig-sawn porch trim, imbricated shingles in the gable ends and decorative bargeboards embellish the exterior. An interior brick chimney has a corbeled cap. The house has been moved and now sits in a residential area northeast of the central business district. It was listed for its architecture because L-plan dwellings were built in great numbers in Waxahachie in the late nineteenth century, and this is one of the city's most intact surviving examples. It remains in residential use and in good condition.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"L-plan","criteria":["C"],"status_note":"Condition is listed as good; present use is residential.","vacant_flag":false,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:20.84211-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/96/9689/40968996/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86002521.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002521/6731f8ff52-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002521/6731f8ff52-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 4.0","author":"Renelibrary","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_1301_East_Marvin_Waxahachie_Wiki_(1_of_1).jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">Renelibrary</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 4.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_at_1301_East_Marvin_Waxahachie_Wiki_(1_of_1).jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40968996","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110002007"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/ellis-county/house-at-1301-east-marvin-86002521/"}
