Vine in Victoria, Texas, built circa 1870 in a vernacular center-passage plan. The builder is not identified.","why_significant":"The form argues the house is significant for architecture as an outstanding unaltered center-passage farmhouse, a plan type once common in Texas. Classical references appear in the symmetrical east elevation and the molded caps on the porch posts.","narrative":"Built around 1870 at 3003 N. Vine in Victoria, Texas, this wood-frame farmhouse rises one and a half stories under a double-pitched gable roof of corrugated tin. It follows a center-passage plan with a rear ell. The symmetrical, three-bay east elevation has a centered paneled door with a tripartite transom and sidelights, set beneath an inset five-bay porch. The front roof slope flattens in pitch over the porch, and the porch posts have molded caps that give a Classical touch. Windows are wood-sash double-hung units with six-over-six lights, with small windows in the east second story. A small frame shed, barns and pens remain on the property. The house sits in a semi-rural area north of the old city cemetery. It was recorded as an outstanding unaltered example of the center-passage farmhouse, a plan once common in Texas. At the time of the survey it stood vacant, in fair to poor condition, and was owned by the City of Victoria.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Vernacular dwelling with Classical references; center-passage plan with rear ell","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as vacant, in fair to poor condition, and owned by the City of Victoria at the time of the survey.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.639599-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/34/9704/40970434/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86002482.pdf"},"photo":{"url_800":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002482/3fb8ccb78e-800.webp","url_1600":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/media/86002482/3fb8ccb78e-1600.webp","licence":"CC BY-SA 3.0","author":"ProfReader","credit_html":"<a href=\"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hiller_House.jpg\" rel=\"noopener\">ProfReader</a>, <a href=\"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0\" rel=\"license noopener\">CC BY-SA 3.0</a>, via Wikimedia Commons","source_page":"https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hiller_House.jpg"},"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40970434","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000671"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/victoria-county/hiller-house-86002482/"}
