It is a one-story, two-room plan dwelling clad in weatherboard siding, with a gable roof of wood shingles and wood double-hung windows. Two single-door entrances open onto a three-bay shed-roofed porch along the west side, which has turned wood posts and jig-sawn brackets. An exterior brick chimney and an integral ell complete the form. The house reflects a building type described as widespread across the Lowland South, usually decorated only with sawn and turned porch details. It was recorded for its architecture as one of a small number of early domestic buildings remaining in the eastern part of the city, and as one of the best preserved. It sits on its original site in a mostly residential area east of the central business district, along one of the city's oldest roads. At the time of the 1985 survey it was vacant and deteriorated.","period_of_significance":null,"architect_builder":null,"architectural_style":"Two-room plan","criteria":[],"status_note":"Listed as vacant and in deteriorated condition on the 1985 inventory form.","vacant_flag":true,"machine_generated":true,"model":"claude-sonnet-5-5","prompt_version":"v1.0-2026-10-29","generated_at":"2026-10-29 02:54:21.926489-05","source_pdf":"https://s3.amazonaws.com/NARAprodstorage/opastorage/live/86/9690/40969086/content/electronic-records/rg-079/NPS_TX/86002417.pdf"},"photo":null,"district":null,"sources":{"nps_snapshot_date":"2026-05-22","nara_catalog":"https://catalog.archives.gov/id/40969086","wikipedia":null,"wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q110000603"},"indexable":true,"url":"https://nationalhistoricalregister.com/texas/ellis-county/house-at-104-kaufman-86002417/"}
